In most of the UK, no — as an independent celebrant you cannot legally marry people in the sense of creating a legally binding marriage by yourself. The exact rules depend on which nation of the UK you’re working in.
However, there are real signs the law is moving toward change in England and Wales, but it has not changed yet.
The UK Government has now formally said it intends to reform wedding law, based largely on the Law Commission’s 2022 recommendations.
